Please describe or explain three skills or concepts you learned in LALT 101 this semester.

- how to search for academic articles in a more efficent way

- the idea of databases and searching for journals not only articles.

- how to limit your results in a certain way

Think about the topics we covered in LALT 101 this semester. What ideas are you still confused about? Or, what would you have liked to spend more time practicing or learning?

I am still confused about the usage of the right keyword and the correct propostitions to find your needed articles. But i think i just need more practice because we did spend a lot of time on it.

What did you like about blogging through WordPress?

I really came to love the idea of blogging in the most simplest ways and there are no complications

What didn’t you like about blogging through WordPress?

The way to publish, save, or send is not clear at all to me. I had a very hard time at first making sure that you got my blog because i really did not know what is going on.

The process I used is the common one of refering to a search engine, like google scholar, then I looked at the list of results and found a credible one becasue I did use this website a couple of times before to search other topics. Also it is published in Manchester School of Management written by Hugh Wilmott. It also seems to try to achieve objectivity and coverage of the whole consequence and issues with slavery.

The process is a non-academic article whereby there is a recommendation of using this journal to know the aspects of the Economic effect of slavery. So it really focuses on one point no more, so it will be subjective but I expect it to reliable and has full coverage of the issue. It is also a journal specified in the field of political economy produced in Chicago.

2. What is the main argument of the editorial? Do you agree or disagree, and why?

The author’s main argument is on result of the seperation of the Egypt from Gaza. This gave the terrorists a more efficent place to function thier actions upon. The construction of those areas after the seperation gave the chance for the Sinai terrorist attack. I am to disagree on the point that this might illuminated the chance to fight terrorism because the solution to terrorist attacks or not make it harder for them to their acts, but to psychologically get them in the right picture through education and stability within the poltics of the nation.

Lexis Nexis would be considered a great choice for detail, comprehensive, news reasearsch. It has many different search options. It also is a good database when you are required to find the latest update news, but are not to use the internet.

The First Database:

The name of the database is Communication and Mass Media Complete. It covers the area of journalism and mass communication. The dates covered by this database is from 1920 till this year, the year of 2008. Abstracts, and some full text, of articles from over 300 journals, as well as handbooks and recent encyclopedias, in communication & mass media. Also covers monographs, conference proceedings, working papers, and other “grey literature” in the field. This database is available for off-campus access. The full-text is availavble for some of the sources.

The Second Database:

The name of the database is global newsbank. It covers the area of journalism and mass communication. The datas covered by this database is since 1966 and so on. Articles cover politics, economics, culture, business, science, technology, and the environment from Africa, Asia, Europe, the former Soviet Union, the Pacific Rim, Central and South America, and the Middle East. All articles are in English and are from translated broadcasts, news agency transmissions, wire services, newspapers, magazines, and government documents. yes, this database is available off campus. In this databas full texts are available.

The database is easier to use is communication and mass media database becuase it seems more abstract and straight to the point since it does not discuss different fields.

My topic is racism or race issues.

Some of the academic disciplines are history of slavery, political science, cultural and ethnic studies, and religion and racial belief.

Some of the related minors and majors to racism are African studies minor, American studies major, and modern history major.

Academic Search Complete

The articles in this specific database have been reviewed and mostly come from a scholor source which makes it more reliable. It also offer a coverage of different field of information from various academic disciplines such as anthropology, political science, or psychology. So I would be enlightened with information about racism from more than one aspect.

LexisNexis Academic Universe

In this database a person would be confirmed with certain facts about government decisions and rules. They also discuss historical events that would back up the issue of lets say racism or the race issues. So I would be able to relate more with the actual facts that occured and have been established in the articles of this database.
